Your Pregnancy - Going the Distance
Pregnancy is tremendously demanding on the lower back together with the neck and
shoulders.
To understand why an expectant mother experiences pain, simply examine the spine.
Nine months of pregnancy will produce many hormonal changes that relax the ligaments that stabilize the lower back
and pelvis. The muscles of the lower back become short and tight as the pelvis rotates down in the front. This
causes a rise in pressure on the joints of the lower back which are pain sensitive anyway resulting in achy lower
back pain.
During pregnancy with the increased enlargement of the breast tissue, the
shoulders are rounded forward and this places a massive burden on the neck and shoulders. And the weight of the
developing child puts tremendous stress on the lower back.
Just examine the spine of a pregnant mother from the side and it's easy to see why
they experience pain.
