Postural Consequences from Imbalances in the Feet
- A flattening and rolling in of the foot results from a loss of arch height -
this is called pronation. Because the whole body is connected, the bones of the leg will inwardly rotate as
well.
- When the body’s natural ‘shock absorbers’ fail, the consequence may be high
levels of heel-strike. The shock wave then spreads up the kinetic chain causing painful symptoms all the way up
to the body to the head, decelerated recovery of leg and spine injuries and worsening of other
conditions.
- Tension on muscles and connective tissues is the result of tilting of the
pelvis, which can ultimately lead to long-lasting back problems.
- Extreme rotation of the bones of the leg (tibia and femur) will produce
excessive stresses on the knee as well as twisting of the pelvis and spine. If the pronation is predominant on
one side, the result can be an unleveling of the pelvis and a practical scoliosis.
